The white background in a dense plain weave consists of 60 percent organic cotton and 40 percent durable linen. The Basque weaving mill Tissage de Luz not only excels at the craft of weaving but also at playing with colors and patterns. The origins of Tissage de Luz date back to 1908, when Jean-Baptiste Gouze, the son of a hand weaver, founded one of the first mechanical weaving mills in the Basque Country. He produced sturdy textiles such as the traditional “mantes à bœufs,” as well as fine table linens, which even back then were distinguished by their extraordinary, sophisticated patterns and details. Today, the fifth generation is at the helm of the company. The fabrics’ original designs and their exceptional quality reflect a passion for aesthetics and a deep understanding of the traditional art of weaving passed down through generations. Production continues to take place in France, covering the entire production chain: from design through dyeing, warping, and weaving to finishing. Natural materials such as linen and certified organic cotton are used.
