General Information
Striped Surprise
The French weaving mill Tissage de Luz proves that stripes can be surprisingly elegant—and that the stripes themselves can be a surprise. That’s because the color pattern of the stripes is different on every pillowcase. The reason is surprisingly simple: the basis for the covers is a single piece of fabric where the stripes and colors vary greatly across the entire width. The covers are made from this fabric. Depending on which side of the fabric is used, the stripes are sometimes narrower, sometimes wider. The color combinations range from turquoise-blue-green to red-orange-pink and everything in between. We cannot specify which version of the ordered pillowcase you will receive: so it will be a real surprise.
Before first use
The colorful canvas fabric is made from certified organic cotton. It is sewn immediately after weaving and receives no finishing treatment; as a result, it shrinks 7% lengthwise during the first wash, which is already accounted for in the cutting process. To preserve the fabric and colors, the manufacturer recommends soaking the pillowcase in cold water for 24 hours before first use, or washing it in the machine on the wool cycle in cold water without detergent, followed by a wash at 30°C with a small amount of detergent. In general, the cover can be washed at 60 degrees and is therefore also suitable for use as a chair cushion on the balcony or terrace. It measures 39 × 39 centimeters (after the first wash)—all you need to do is fill it with a flat cushion insert for this purpose.
Colorful Striped Artistry. Home textiles by Tissage de Luz
The Basque weaving mill Tissage de Luz not only excels at the craft of weaving but also at playing with colors and patterns. Stripes, in particular, seem to have captured the designers’ (and our) imagination. While stripe patterns are among the simplest in terms of weaving technique, in Tissage de Luz’s home textiles they convey a sense of exceptional craftsmanship. The stylish striped patterns, with their fresh colors and skillful combinations, really lift your spirits and add colorful accents and a modern, original touch to interiors, patios, and balconies.
The origins of Tissage de Luz date back to 1908, when Jean-Baptiste Gouze, the son of a hand weaver, founded one of the first mechanical weaving mills in the Basque Country. He produced sturdy textiles such as the traditional “mantes à bœufs,” as well as fine table linens, which even back then were distinguished by their extraordinary, sophisticated patterns and details. Today, the fifth generation is at the helm of the company. The fabrics’ original designs and their exceptional quality reflect a passion for aesthetics and a deep understanding of the traditional art of weaving passed down through generations. Production continues to take place in France, covering the entire production chain: from design through dyeing, warping, and weaving to finishing. Natural materials such as linen and certified organic cotton are used.
Note:
Please note: Stripes and colors vary depending on which part of the fabric is used for the product. The designs of the individual products therefore vary, they are never identical.
